Pomperaug Youth Baseball offers a youth baseball experience that teaches the fundamentals of baseball in a fun and positive environment. Through the Cal Ripken Division and the Babe Ruth Division, Pomperaug Youth Baseball offers the opportunity for boys and girls aged 5-15 to play baseball. The goals for each division include:
PYB offers a place for kids from 5 to 15 to play the wonderful sport of baseball.
T-Ball introduces 5 & 6 year-olds to the fundamental rules and skills of baseball. Players will be introduced to hitting, throwing and catching mechanics in a safe and fun environment. Players will learn to hit regular weight SAFE-T / Tee Ball style baseballs during practices and games. Games are usually 45 minutes long and make it 3 or 4 innings in length. Every player bats in each inning. No scores are kept during games.
Rookies (machine-pitch) baseball is for 7 and 8-year-olds, and continues the skill building that started in T-Ball. Players will continue to develop individual hitting, throwing and catching mechanics in a safe and fun environment. Additionally, they’ll start to learn more rules of the game, with more focus on base running and team fielding techniques. Games usually run 90 minutes. No scores are kept during the game.
Minors (player pitch) is for 9 and 10-year-olds. Players further develop their baseball skills, baseball IQ, and sportsmanship in a safe and fun environment. Innings are limited to 3 outs or a set number of runs scored, whichever comes first, and a maximum of 6 innings. This is the first year that players will learn to pitch. Scores are kept.
Majors is for 11 and 12-year-olds and is an introduction to competitive baseball. Players continue to develop their baseball skills, baseball IQ, and sportsmanship in a safe and fun environment. Scores are kept.
Babe Ruth is for 13 to 16-year-olds with players graduating to fields with 90ft bases. Players continue to develop their baseball skills, baseball IQ, and sportsmanship in a safe and fun environment. Scores are kept.
Note: Babe Ruth & Cal Ripken Baseball established May 1st as the cutoff date to equalize the skill levels of all players within a division.
Baseball requires a few items to play. Each player should bring a glove, a helmet, a bat (USA Baseball Bat), baseball cleats (metal cleats are not allowed), baseball pants and a water bottle. PYB will supply a jersey shirt, baseball hat and socks.
