Pomperaug Youth Baseball's Mission

Pomperaug Youth Baseball offers a youth baseball experience that teaches the fundamentals of baseball in a fun and positive environment.  Through the Cal Ripken Division and the Babe Ruth Division, Pomperaug Youth Baseball offers the opportunity for boys and girls aged 5-15 to play baseball.  The goals for each division include:

  • Learn the rules and fundamentals of baseball
  • Gain a sense of achievement through improving baseball skills
  • Value good sportsmanship by demonstrating respect for coaches, teammates, & opponents
  • Be ready for the next level of baseball
  • Have a desire to play again!

Division Information

PYB offers a place for kids from 5 to 15 to play the wonderful sport of baseball.

T-Ball (5-6)

T-Ball introduces 5 & 6 year-olds to the fundamental rules and skills of baseball. Players will be introduced to hitting, throwing and catching mechanics in a safe and fun environment. Players will learn to hit regular weight SAFE-T / Tee Ball style baseballs during practices and games. Games are usually 45 minutes long and make it 3 or 4 innings in length. Every player bats in each inning. No scores are kept during games.

Rookies (7-8)

Rookies (machine-pitch) baseball is for 7 and 8-year-olds, and continues the skill building that started in T-Ball. Players will continue to develop individual hitting, throwing and catching mechanics in a safe and fun environment. Additionally, they’ll start to learn more rules of the game, with more focus on base running and team fielding techniques. Games usually run 90 minutes. No scores are kept during the game.

Minors (9-10)

Minors (player pitch) is for 9 and 10-year-olds. Players further develop their baseball skills, baseball IQ, and sportsmanship in a safe and fun environment. Innings are limited to 3 outs or a set number of runs scored, whichever comes first, and a maximum of 6 innings. This is the first year that players will learn to pitch. Scores are kept.

Majors (11-12)

Majors is for 11 and 12-year-olds and is an introduction to competitive baseball. Players continue to develop their baseball skills, baseball IQ, and sportsmanship in a safe and fun environment. Scores are kept.

Babe Ruth (13-16)

Babe Ruth is for 13 to 16-year-olds with players graduating to fields with 90ft bases. Players continue to develop their baseball skills, baseball IQ, and sportsmanship in a safe and fun environment. Scores are kept.

Note: Babe Ruth & Cal Ripken Baseball established May 1st as the cutoff date to equalize the skill levels of all players within a division.

Frequently Asked Questions

What equipment does my child need to play?

Baseball requires a few items to play. Each player should bring a glove, a helmet, a bat (USA Baseball Bat), baseball cleats (metal cleats are not allowed), baseball pants and a water bottle. PYB will supply a jersey shirt, baseball hat and socks.

When does the season start?

Our spring season runs from early April through early June and our fall season runs from early September though late October. The exact start date for the spring season depends largely on the weather and field conditions following the winter.

How long does the season last?

Spring season typically lasts 8-10 weeks and our fall season typically lasts 6-8 weeks.

What does registration cost?

T-Ball: $125, Rookies: $155, Minors: $190, Majors: $200 and Babe Ruth is $210. If you are registering more than 3 players, please contact PYB for a family discount.

What fields do we play on?

Our main fields are: Ewald Park (234 Poverty Road Southbury, CT 06488), Settlers Park (359-479 Crook Horn Rd, Southbury, CT 06488) and Quassy Field in Middlebury (Quassapaug Field, Middlebury, CT 06762).

Do you run background checks on your coaches?

Yes, all PYB volunteers that interact with players are required to pass a background check.
